Women in Nepal are “on the frontlines of climate change” because as subsistence farmers, they are the ones who are most affected. Alina Saba, research and community organizer in Nepal, made the remarks on the sidelines of an event at the UN Climate Summit. A member of the indigenous Limbu community, she has been working with women in her country to build their resilience to the climate challenges they face. Natural disasters like flash floods, mudslides occur often and pose a huge challenge for people. Ms Saba shared with Jocelyne Sambira what can be done to mitigate the effects of the extreme weather patterns.

Carers offer more support to women who are raped in South Sudan

Women in South Sudan are increasingly becoming victims of gender-based violence and rape as a result of the ongoing conflict in the country, according to the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA. The agency is stepping up the training of humanitarian service providers on the clinical management for rape so they can be better prepared to support women who are attacked.  In Malakal, in Upper Nile State, 17,000 people are accommodated at the UN’s protection of civilians site. Luka William Athiel spoke to UNFPA Reproductive health and gender-based violence coordinator in Malakal, Millicent Obaso, about the importance of the training programme.
