The bamboo plant can help in the fight against climate change and the loss of biodiversity according to the international association which represents 40 bamboo-growing countries.

The plant can absorb harmful carbon dioxide gasses quicker than trees and its roots can help to prevent soil erosion.

The international community is currently meeting in South Korea to discuss issues of biodiversity and the Aichi targets which aim to protect the world's natural resources.

Florencia Soto Nino asked the Director General of the International Network for Bamboo and Rattan, Hans Friederich about the benefits of bamboo.
