The UN General Assembly (GA) Hall, which has been described as the greatest of Parliaments, underwent a massive renovation from June 2013 to September 2014.

It has seen hour long speeches by world leaders, tense debates on global issues, and numerous votes to elect Security Council members.

But for the past 16 months, the UN's most important venue for policy-making has received a face-lift.

And it's also trying to set the example—the renovation allows the energy consumption of UN Headquarters to be reduced by 50 per cent.

Ahead of the GA debate opening on 24 September, Werner Schmidt, information specialist on the renovation, gave Stephanie Coutrix a tour.

He says it looks just like it did in 1952.
