All armed groups fighting in Libya need to ensure that the protection of civilians is a priority, according to the UN Human Right Office (OHCHR).

Ravina Shamdasani, a spokesperson for the UN human rights office, says attacks are taking place in densely populated residential areas while necessary precautions are not in place to protect civilians.

A new UN report released on Thursday warns that serious violations of international human rights and humanitarian law are taking place in the Libyan cities of Tripoli and Benghazi.
