Terrorist groups operating in Syria have been unleashed like a monster, according to the country's Foreign Minister.

Speaking at the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, Walid Al-Moualem said pressure should be put on countries that support terrorist organizations.

Mr Al-Moualem said these countries are well known, and specifically named ISIL, also known as ISIS as the biggest threat.

” The ISIS is an ideology metamorphosed into an organization supported, armed and trained in order to be unleashed like a monster against Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. Let us together stop this ideology and its exporters, let us, simultaneously, exert pressure on the countries that joined the coalition led by the United States to stop their support of armed terrorist groups.

The Foreign Minister added that only then will combating terrorism militarily become viable.

He also underlined that Syria stands with any international effort aimed at fighting and combating terrorism while respecting national sovereignty and international conventions.

He thanked all the countries that took a firm position and rejected any prejudice to the sovereignty of other states.
