Ebola outbreak is a "tragedy" for Liberia: UN top envoy

The outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Liberia has been described by the top UN envoy in the country as "a tragedy" for the West African nation.

Karin Landgren, the head of the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) was at UN headquarters on Tuesday to brief the Security Council on the situation in the country.

Liberia is working to build state institutions and consolidate stability with the help of UNMIL, following a civil war which ended in 2003.

Ms Landgren told Derrick Mbatha that Liberia which has suffered so much is now facing the challenge of the Ebola outbreak.
