Carers offer more support to women who are raped in South Sudan

Listen /

Women in South Sudan are increasingly becoming victims of gender-based violence and rape as a result of the ongoing conflict in the country, according to the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA.

The agency is stepping up the training of humanitarian service providers on the clinical management for rape so they can be better prepared to support women who are attacked.

In Malakal, in Upper Nile State, 17,000 people are accommodated at the UN's protection of civilians site.

Luka William Athiel spoke to UNFPA Reproductive health and gender-based violence coordinator in Malakal, Millicent Obaso, about the importance of the training programme.
