Terrorism is a common enemy for the African Union and the United Nations, and the UN is strongly committed to stepping up its cooperation with the AU and its Member States.

That's the message that the UN Secretary-General sent to the African Union Peace and Security Council summit on terrorism held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi on Tuesday.

There is concern that terrorist groups such as the Islamic State and al-Qaeda may be having dormant cells on the continent waiting for the right moment to strike.

To find out more about the challenge of terrorism in Africa, Eleutério Guevane spoke with Ambassador Francisco Madeira, the AU's Chairperson's Special Representative for Counterterrorism on the line from Cairo, Egypt.
