UN offers support to China after Yunnan earthquake disasterListen /
The United Nations stands ready to support China in its relief efforts following an earthquake in the town of Wenping in the southern Yunnan province.
That's according to a statement released by the Secretary-General through his Spokesperson on Sunday.
According to local media reports, hundreds of people were killed and thousands of homes collapsed when the 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck.
Relief and rescue efforts are underway.
Mr Ban Ki-moon has also offered to mobilize any international support the country needs.
