• South Sudan will see famine this year or early next year if fighting between government and rebel forces doesn't stop. This warning has come from the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the new African country. Thousands of people have been displaced by the conflict which broke out in December 2013.

• More than 15 million young people are unemployed in Africa, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO). The ILO's Youth to Youth Fund (Y2Y Fund) is a competitive grant scheme. It enables youth-led non-profit organizations to set up micro-enterprises to create jobs for young people in niche markets.

Global  community urged to help avert humanitarian disaster in Somalia

• The international community has been urged to act now to avert what has been described as "a looming humanitarian disaster" in Somalia. The appeal has come from the new UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia. The expert called on donors to respond to a UN humanitarian appeal which has a funding gap of $663 million.
