Approximately 20 per cent of the world's young people experience a mental health condition each year, according to a new United Nations publication.

The UN estimates that there are 1.8 billion adolescents and youth making up a quarter of the world's population.

This year's International Youth Day is focusing on mental health to, in the words of the UN Secretary-General, "help lift the veil that keeps young people locked in a chamber of isolation and silence.'

Basma Baghall sat down with Ahmad Alhendawi, the Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, to discuss the importance of mental health for young people around the world.
