The international community has been urged to act now to avert what has been described as "a looming humanitarian disaster" in Somalia.

The appeal has come from Bahame Tom Nyanduga, the new UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia.

He called on donors to respond to the humanitarian appeal launched by the United Nations and partners in collaboration with the Somali government, which currently has a funding gap of $663 million.

Priscilla Lecomte  spoke with Mr. Nyanduga who first described the humanitarian situation in Somalia.
