A transit camp for Syrian refugees in Erbil, northern Iraq is making room for an influx of Iraqi citizens displaced by recent fighting, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The Darashakran Refugee camp is taking in Iraqis from Sinjar fleeing clashes between Kurdish troops and ISIL also known as the Islamic State.

Meanwhile, thousands of Syrian refugees have made the camp their home since 2011, when the civil war broke out in their country.

The UN human rights chief has warned that the "grave and horrific violations" being carried out daily by ISIL could amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
