Lives have been saved in Syria and the health care of millions affected by the conflict addressed through a $45 million donation by Kuwait to the World Health Organization.

A new WHO report released on Wednesday detailed how the much-needed funds were used.

Critical medicines to treat life-threatening chronic conditions, such as renal failure, epilepsy, asthma and diabetes were provided through the donation, the agency says.

Furthermore, over 5 million of the sick or injured were able to receive medicines, anaesthetics and surgical supplies.

The much needed funds have also been used to provide essential health care in both government- and opposition-controlled areas within Syria, as well as in neighbouring countries.

Close to 3 million Syrians are being hosted in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, Turkey.
