The international community does not have much time to wait and lose, the UN Secretary-General urged during Wednesday's visit to Jerusalem.

Mr Ban Ki-moon was in the Israeli city as part of his Middle East tour aiming to secure a cease-fire in Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

After his meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres, he made remarks to the press calling for an end to the violence and for the resumption of dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians.

The UN Chief also met with US Secretary of State John Kerry before leaving for Jordan.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the 15th day since the crisis began. We do not have much time to wait and lose. I really appreciate Secretary Kerry's very intensive, very dynamic engagement with world leaders, as I have been doing. Together, we are now joining our forces and strength to make a ceasefire as soon as possible. But there are still some details which we have to make. That is why I am meeting Secretary Kerry for a second time. But we will continue to discuss this matter. I just spoke with Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu and I am also working with all the parties concerned who would have some influence in helping our joint effort, as well as working together to bring an end to this crisis as soon as possible."

The Secretary-General is currently travelling to Saudi Arabia from Amman, Jordan.
