The Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are not just "victims to global climate change" but are taking progressive steps to attenuate the impact.

That's according to Nik Sekhran, the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the UN Development Programme's Environment and Energy Group.

The Maldives, for example, have banned shark fishing in their waters and have also created a biosphere reserve to preserve and protect their environment.

Mr Sekhran spoke to Jocelyne Sambira ahead of World Environment Day observed every year on 5 June.
