Small and medium-sized companies get help from joint UN World Trade Organization agency

Thousands of small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) are being assisted by the International Trade Centre (ITC) to improve their competitiveness and create jobs.

The head of the ITC says the big challenge faced by developing countries today is that thousands of SMEs "are born every day and thousands of them die everyday."

The joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations has a team of 300 staff working with developing to sharpen economic competitiveness.

As the agency celebrates its 50th anniversary, Nicki Chadwick spoke to ITC's Executive Director, Arancha González, who started by identifying why the agency is successful.
