On World Blood Donor Day observed 14 June, WHO has called for improved access to safe blood in order to save the lives of mothers.

The agency maintains that providing safe and adequate supplies of blood and blood products should be an integral part of every country’s efforts to improve maternal health.

A mobile blood drive hosted at the UN Secretariat in New York received a high turnout on Friday.
