UN General Assembly focuses on role of human rights in developmentListen /
"There has been undeniable consensus that respecting human rights and the rule of law is central to the development process".
That's what participants at a high-level event on the "Contributions of Human Rights and the Rule of Law in the Post 2015 Development Agenda" were told in New York on Monday.
The year 2015 is the deadline for meeting anti-poverty goals, known as the Millennium Development Goals, set by world leaders in 2000 and discussions are now focused on the sustainable development goals that will follow.
Senior representatives of governments, UN agencies and civil society are attending the two-day event, convened by the President of the General Assembly.
