The implementation of the framework for future sustainable development goals is getting underway at the United Nations in New York.

Member States of the UN are meeting under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to begin implementing the institutional structure for the Post-2015 development agenda.

A new set of poverty and sustainable development goals are set to be introduced to replace the Millennium Development Goals the deadline for which is next year.

Martin Sajdik is ECOSOC President.

"A strong forum means faster progress towards sustainable development goals. It should accelerate the shift towards inclusive, equitable and prosperous societies without poverty and a better future for all."  (16″)

More than 500 delegates, including 50 ministers, mayors and parliamentarians, as well as key figures from the private sector and civil society are expected to take part in the two week-long event.
