Education plays key role in ending domestic violence, rape

Listen /

UN Radio’s Jocelyne Sambira talking to Paulette Forbes-Igharo.

A lot of the violence directed at women is accepted as "normal" behaviour in some societies.

That's according to Paulette Forbes-Igharo, the UN representative for Soroptimist International, a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment.

She's found that domestic violence and rape become common occurrences in places where these crimes are not "frowned upon".

Ms Igharo told Jocelyne Sambira that it's a challenge she faces every day at work.
