The debate on global illicit drug policy should be shifted towards prevention and the treatment of substance abusers according to a new report by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The World Drug Report 2014 provides an annual overview of the major developments in drug markets and includes data on production, trafficking, as well as consumption.

It's published on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the theme for which this year is "drug use disorders are preventable and treatable."

Daniel Dickinson asked Angela Me from UNODC about recent trends.
