Aid distributions in Mali's Kidal region are being stepped up by the World Food Programme (WFP) in June.

WFP is delivering provisions to 31,000 people, compared to 20,000 people in April.

Thousands of people fled Kidal, in northern Mali in May, after clashes between government forces and rebels.

Hostilities are continuing in the region.

More than one and a half million Malians are currently food insecure.

With the lean season starting, the number is expected to peak at 1.9 million – 11 per cent of the country's population.
