Being a woman in the top ranks of the military has been "challenging but interesting", according to the new head the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

Major General Kristin Lund is the very first woman to be appointed Force Commander at the UN.

She had broken new ground before as the first female officer in Norway to be promoted to the rank of Major General.

Given her experience with UN peacekeeping missions as a military and as a civilian, Major General Lund told Jocelyne Sambira how being a woman gives her access to "one hundred per cent" of the population.

She began by sharing her reaction to this appointment.
