Sri Lankan women who migrate abroad for work should be better protected against abuse and exploitation, according to a UN expert.

Around 1.8 million Sri Lankans are migrant workers in foreign countries.

The majority of women migrants are employed as domestic workers in the Middle East where they often face exploitative work conditions.

Daniel Dickinson has been talking to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights of migrants, François Crépeau who has just returned from a visit to Sri Lanka.
