Road transport can promote trade within AfricaListen /
Moving goods by road can play a critical role in promoting trade between African countries, according to the Secretary-General of the International Road Transport Union (IRU).
Umberto de Pretto was at the United Nations recently to attend a meeting on sustainable development goals that will replace the Millennium Development Goals after their 2015 deadline.
He recalled that the Geneva-based organization was formed in 1948 to work with the UN to promote development around the world.
Daniel Dickinson caught up with Mr. de Pretto and first asked him what role his organization was playing in promoting roads in developing countries.
