A truly uninhibited free press is necessary for societies to move forward, according to Pamela Falk, a CBS News Foreign Affairs Analyst based at UN Headquarters.

Ms. Falk is sharing her thoughts about the future of media freedom at the 2014 commemoration of World Press Freedom Day in New York on Thursday.

The UN says the day serves as an occasion to inform citizens of violations towards the press and is a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitments.

Stephanie Coutrix asked Pamela Falk about the importance of World Press Freedom Day.
