More indigenous women and youth standing up for their rightsListen /
Indigenous women are taking on more leadership positions and standing up for their rights, according to a member of an East African indigenous community.
Martha Ntoipo is part of the Maasai community, a population of several hundred thousand people living in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania.
She is at United Nations Headquarters in New York for a two-week forum on issues affecting indigenous people around the world.
Many advocates and experts are also assembling at the UN to support indigenous rights.
