Landslide in disaster-prone Afghanistan highlights need for preventive measures and long-term aid

The deadly landslide that recently affected northern Afghanistan highlights the need to focus on the larger issue of natural disasters, according to the UN.

Hundreds of people were killed in the Nowabad area of Abi-Barik village in the Argo district of Badakhshan province.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs estimates that 1,000 families have been affected and some 300 houses totally destroyed.
