Solutions for Kenya's displaced people require urgent action, according to a United Nations expert.

Chaloka Beyani, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons, was in Kenya for nine days to discuss durable solutions for the country's displaced.

He met with representatives of the government as well as with internally displaced persons in Nairobi, Nakuru and Moyale.

Post-election violence, inter-communal clashes, and natural disasters are some of the major causes of displacement in Kenya.

The Special Rapporteur said solutions must be pursued more rigorously through concerted development and peacebuilding action.

He also stressed that Kenya's Act on internal displacement requires immediate implementation.
