Half a billion smallholder farmers globally need support: UN chiefListen /
Governments around the world have been urged to support smallholder farmers as they struggle to produce food in increasingly fragile ecosystems.
The call came from United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at a meeting of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) in Rome on Wednesday.
The CFS was created in 1974 to serve as a forum for governments to review and follow up on food security policies.
The Secretary-General said that ending hunger can be achieved.
