A number of civilians were killed in an attack by an armed mob at a base of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in the town of Bor on Thursday.

UNMISS strongly condemned the attack by the assailants who went to the base under the guise of peaceful demonstrators intending to present a petition to the UN.

There were approximately 5,000 displaced people in what is called a protection-of-civilians site inside the base.

UNMISS Acting Spokesperson, Joseph Contreras told Gabriel Shadar that UN peacekeepers fired warning shots to stop the mob from entering the site.
