UN peacekeeping operation to CAR approved by Security Council

The Security Council has unanimously approved the deployment of a 12,000 strong UN peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Under the name MINUSCA, the protection of civilians will be the mission's priority.

The newly established force will replace the African Union (AU)-led peacekeeping operation.
