The private sector is going to play an important role in the future development of Africa and the rest of the world, according to one of the continent's leading businessmen.

Tony Elumelu, the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, an investment company operating businesses across Africa, made the comments at a debate held at the United Nations in New York on partnerships in the post-2015 development agenda.

The Member States of the UN are currently defining a new set of poverty eradication tools to replace the Millennium Development Goals which are due to expire at the end of 2015.
