Killing of UN workers in Somalia condemnedListen /
The killing of two United Nations workers in Somalia on Monday has been condemned by senior UN officials.
According to reports, the two consultants, working for the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) were shot inside Galkayo Airport in Puntland after they got off a plane.
The two experts, nationals of the United Kingdom and France, were based in Kenya and visited Somalia regularly.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, said there could be no justification for what he called "a callous attack."
The Executive Director of UNODC, Yury Fedotov described the attack as "cruel and senseless".
Both UN officials called on the Somali authorities to ensure that the killers are brought to justice.
