Early warning key to preventing genocideListen /
Early warning mechanisms are key to ensuring that genocide will not occur again in the Great Lakes region.
That's according to Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, the first Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes region, a UN-backed inter-governmental organisation set up following the Rwanda genocide.
The 20th anniversary of the genocide in which 800,000 people lost their lives is being commemorated this April.
Assumpta Massoi asked Ms. Mulamula, who is currently the Ambassador of Tanzania to the United States, how the Conference worked towards the reconciliation and rebuilding process.
