People who have been detained in Syria by Government forces and some armed opposition groups are routinely tortured according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Syria is in its third year of an internal conflict which has led to the deaths of over 100,000 people and the displacement of millions more.

Navi Pillay made the comments as a report was published detailing the routine beating and humiliation of detainees when they arrive at a detention facility.

Ravina Shamdasani is from UN Human Rights Office. She spoke to Alpha Diallo.
