The international community must be committed to supporting future development goals through a renewed global partnership.

That's according to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon who is in Mexico at the first meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.

World leaders and civil society have gathered in Mexico City to work on the partnership, which was created in Busan, South Korea, three years ago.

Ban Ki-moon said the stage is set for wider, deeper progress.

"The world is at a turning point in its pursuit of sustainable development. We have the lessons of the MDGs in our hands. We are in the midst of a rich global discussion, with a new set of goals taking shape.Let us work together to make this world better for all." (0'19)

The Secretary-General added he hopes to see concrete initiatives coming out of the meeting that will uphold development commitments and inform discussions at the UN.
