African Union-UN mission in Darfur to revise its strategic focusListen /
The joint African Union-United Nations mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is revising its strategic focus, according to its head and Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the region.
The mission was established in 2007 to protect civilians and promote a political process following the outbreak of conflict in the region between government forces and armed groups in 2003.
The Security Council on 3 April adopted a resolution to make UNAMID more effective in carrying out its mandate.
The head of UNAMID, Mohamed Ibn Chambas spoke to UN Radio's Reem Abaza about the new focus of the mission following the Security Council resolution.
