Afghanistan has witnessed a large voter turnout during the country's landmark elections held on Saturday.
Braving the heavy rains, challenges and security threats, people still came out to cast their ballots, the UN's top envoy in the country, Ján Kubiš told journalists at a polling centre in Kabul, the nation's capital.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) which Mr. Kubiš heads reported on Friday that 35 per cent of newly registered voters were women.
