World Water Day puts spotlight on water and energy issuesListen /
The deep-rooted relationship between water and energy is being highlighted for World Water Day (WDD) observed 22 March.
Water is required to produce nearly all forms of energy.
And energy is needed in all stages of water extraction, treatment and distribution.
Both are crucial for human well-being and sustainable development, according to the UN's flagship World Water Development report published ahead of WWD.
A better understanding of the two sectors can lead to better policies and less waste, the report argues.
Michel Jarraud, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization and Chair of UN-Water, shared the key messages for the Day with Patrick Maigua.
