Water is major source of energy for African countries

Countries in Africa are grappling with developing their sources of energy while ensuring that their populations continue to have access to water.

In fact, according to an expert from the UN Development Programme, (UNDP) water is a major source of energy on the African continent.

This year, World Water Day, observed by the United Nations on 22 March highlighted this link between water and energy.

UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha sat down with Andrew Hudson, the Head of the Water and Ocean Governance Programme at UNDP who first explained this year's theme of World Water Day.
