In the last two decades, life has improved for many women and girls around the world.

According to the UN Population Fund, more girls are going to school and fewer women are dying in pregnancy and children birth.

As the world prepares to celebrate International Women's Day on 8 March, the UN held a debate on how women and girls worldwide can become equal partners in development.
