Killing of Iranian guard condemned by UN chiefListen /
The killing of an Iranian border guard by a militant group has been condemned by the UN Secretary-General.
The victim is one of five guards who were abducted by the group on the south-eastern border in early February.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson late on Tuesday, the Secretary-General expressed his solidarity with the government and people of Iran.
He described the killing as an "appalling act" which took place amid the Nowruz celebrations to commemorate the start of a new year.
The Secretary-General called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
He sent his condolences to the family of the slain guard and added that he hoped the Iranian government would achieve the release of the other guards.
