Farming families "critical to the fight" against hunger and malnutrition in Africa

Farming families in Africa have a critical role to play in the fight against hunger and malnutrition on the continent according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The organization has launched the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) as part of a global campaign to reinforce awareness and support for small scale and family farmers around the world.

The FAO says family farming is the predominant form of agriculture in the food production sector in both developing and developed countries.

Sandra Ferrari asked Francesco Pierri, from the FAO, about the challenges faced by farmers in Africa.
