Despite important economic progress and agricultural successes, Africa remains the world's most food insecure continent, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The agency says the continent has relatively low levels of agricultural productivity, low rural incomes, and high rates of malnutrition.

As the agency holds its 28th Regional Conference for Africa in Tunis from 24 to 28 March, FAO is calling for increased investment in agriculture and support to smallholder farmers, including rural youth and women.

FAO's Liliane Kambirigi spoke to Mr. Bukar Tijani, the Assistant Director General at the FAO Regional Office for Africa about the conference.
