Children more at risk of sexual exploitation than ever beforeListen /
Children are more at risk of being sexually exploited or sold than ever before according to the UN Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography.
In a presentation to the UN Human Rights Council, Najat Maalla M'jid, said that "millions of girls and boys worldwide are victims of sexual exploitation", even though the issue has recently gained "increased visibility".
M'jid explained that the availability of child pornography online is growing, children are getting younger and younger, and images more and more horrific.
The Special Rapporteur urged the international community to establish a global response, noting that "children must also be involved in assessing the scale of the problem and developing solutions."
