"Severe funding constraints" in DRC forces reduction in food aid

Food aid is set to be cut to people in need in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned.

The UN agency said "severe funding constraints" meant that it would cut back food deliveries and focus on life-saving activities in what it called "acutely insecure and conflict-affected areas."

An estimated 11 per cent of the rural population in the country is food-insecure.

The agency says it needs $40 million to make up the funding shortfall.
