Major cholera campaign launched in South Sudan displaced camps

Listen /

140,000 thousand people living in temporary camps in South Sudan are being targeted by a major cholera vaccination campaign.

Hundreds of thousands of people have fled their homes in the country as fighting continues between government troops and rebel forces.

They've found refuge in the camps where the conditions are said to be poor and the risk of cholera high

The campaign has been organized by the World Health Organization in collaboration with the National Ministry of Health.

Regina Gorle asked Dr Abdinaser Abubakar, team leader for communicable disease surveillance with WHO why it was necessary.
