Darfur armed groups with AU-UN joint mediator in KampalaListen /
The leaders of three main armed opposition groups in Darfur have wrapped up a meeting with the head of the African Union- United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Mohamed Ibn Chambas.
The meeting is a follow-up on the outcomes of a technical workshop on peace and security in Darfur held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in December 2013.
Mr. Chambas who is also the Joint Mission's Special Representative and Chief Mediator, told the press in Kampala on Wednesday, he was "encouraged" by his discussions with the movements.
The UNAMID head also said the 3 leaders of the armed groups gave their "positive but cautious consideration" of the Darfur Government's calls for reconciliation and dialogue.
Earlier in January, Mr. Chambas had vowed to "pave the way for serious talks" between the Government and the groups that have not yet signed the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.
